Welcome to the SEN Department

At Rathfriland High School our mission statement is ‘Big enough to deliver, small enough to care’ and this ethos is echoed by the Special Educational Needs department, in that we are committed to trying to ensure that all pupils are able to participate fully in a differentiated curriculum through the provision of adequate support and care.

Implementation of the SEN Code of Practice

On entry to Rathfriland High School the SEN department carry out/collate baseline assessments for year 8 pupils.

Baseline assessments along with parental consultation and primary school information are used to provide targeted, timed interventions to meet pupil’s particular needs.

Interventions include:

• In class support

• Reading Programmes- Lexia, Toe by Toe and the Reading Partnership

• Numeracy support

• Colour coded timetables

  • Exam concessions
  • Withdrawal from class for additional peripatetic support
