Outgoing Year 12 donate money to local important charities

The outgoing Year 12 pupils of Rathfriland High School missed out on their school formal this year due to Covid 19. The formal was due to take place on the 27th March at the Slieve Donard Hotel, Newcastle.

Katie Heenan, past Head Girl, said "As part of our fundraising for the formal we undertook several initiatives to raise funds to help offset the cost. We organised a school disco and sold ballot tickets at our school production of Cinderella. We had also collected monies from each pupil to cover transport costs. When Covid arrived and our formal was cancelled we were extremely disappointed as we had worked so hard to raise funds for our special occasion.

As the money raised couldn't be used as we planned, we decided that it would be very rewarding to donate all monies to two very important charities which have helped so many in our community to date.

As young people it's important we support others and we hope this money will go some way towards helping the Air Ambulance and Daisy Lodge Children's Cancer. The vital service of the Air Ambulance, which is sustained by fundraising, has helped so many people across our community to date. We also know how important Daisy Lodge Children's Cancer in Newcastle is to many families. There they provide respite to many young people who are suffering from illness and are an invaluable support to their parents/carers.

Although we were disappointed not to be able to enjoy our first formal we are delighted these fantastic charities will be the beneficiaries of £547-18 each."
