Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II
Rathfriland High School extends its congratulations to Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee. A Jubilee fun day is planned for after the school examinations (28th June), but our pupils have been reflecting on the seventy year reign of the monarch in their lessons. Please see two poems below which were entered for a Platinum Jubilee Poetry Competition.
Well done girls, your poems are excellent!
Queen Elizabeth II
Mayfair, London was her place of birth,
She, alone, knew the importance of her role on this earth.
Born Elizabeth, Alexandra Mary,
Her many roles in life, so varied.
From Daughter, Sister, Mother, Wife and Queen,
Her greatness in them all would be seen.
Elizabeth and George V1’s child was she,
A steadfast strength and keen sense of duty would be key.
Her only sister, Margaret, would be there by her side,
As in 1947 she married Prince Philip with great pride.
A loving mother soon after she would become,
With the birth in 1948 of Charles, her first son.
Life would progress quickly and test her loyalty,
As her fate in this life would confirm her as royalty.
In 1952 she would succeed to the throne,
A vocation that would see her widely known.
1953 saw her wear the jewelled Crown,
Dressed serenely in an exquisite gown.
Years would roll by one by one,
Still her relentless work would have to be done.
Many Jubilees have been celebrated on these islands,
Starting with Silver, Gold, then Diamond.
Ruby and Sapphire, more modest affairs,
Displaying dedication and commitment to all of her people and heirs.
Now as we celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee,
No other monarch has reigned years to the length of 70.
The fine, young Princess of long ago,
Now in her twilight years, but still much wisdom to us show.
With the sad loss of Prince Philip and Covid to fight,
Her duty has been unwavering throughout this plight.
“God Save Our Gracious Queen,” WE sing with pride,
She has always been there as our noble guide.
Well wishes upon her we bestow,
Smiling at her, makes our faces glow.
A more unique individual we have never seen,
“God Save Our Queen!”

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
The Queen’s magnificent, Platinum Jubilee,
Someone who has served loyally and displayed so much humanity.
It has been 70 glorious years of duty and service,
So raise your glass for ‘cheers’-
To OUR Queen, who has proved fearless!
Today is a day to remember and celebrate,
To say Thank you, appreciate our history, and our Commonwealth.
Our Queen.
Trooping the colour, all the pageantry.
But, above all, caring, heart-warming and dutiful,
We should be proud of our monarch,
A beacon of unity to her people.
1953 to 2022
May many more glorious years await you!
